With the arrival of Sota Fujii, the world of Shogi has continued to grow. The ultra-modern Shogi Hall in front of Sendagaya Station has become a hot topic, but did you know that Koma Terrace Nishi-Sando, a facility related to Shogi, opened last year in Yoyogi, Shibuya Ward?

It would be a shame to let it pass you by by saying, "But I'm not interested in Shogi! This time, we would like to introduce Koma Terrace West Approach, which can be enjoyed by preschoolers and adults alike!

Located under an elevated highway, the long, narrow Koma Terrace West Approach has a café, gallery, seminar rooms, decks, hammocks, and even a park.

When I visited before, it was after noon, and the deck was filled with elementary school students after school, relaxing and doing whatever they wanted to do.

As well as freely available shogi boards and pieces, toys and board games for younger children are also available for rent, and can be used as a playground for preschoolers!

The park is elevated, so it is quite a good point to let them play even in the rain. And parents can even buy coffee at the cafe!

Of course, it is also a very good source of information on Shogi, and staff from the Japan Shogi Federation are on hand to answer various questions and chat with visitors about Shogi.

Various chess courses are offered, and staff members even teach chess to children free of charge.

Various events are held on weekends, not only Shogi-related but also community-based activities.

However, if the environment is such that "Shogi is close at hand," many children will naturally develop an interest in Shogi.
