Ms. Hiroko Fujita
Born in Tokyo in 1937. During the war, he was evacuated to Miharu, Fukushima Prefecture. She grew up listening to a man who lived in a neighboring farm telling stories about the old days. As an early childhood educator and storyteller, she has given lectures at kindergartens, nursery schools, elementary schools, libraries, public health centers, community centers, and civic halls throughout Japan.
She has given numerous lectures, including storytelling sessions for children, childcare classes for young parents, practical classes and educational theory for nursery school teachers and kindergarten teachers, and courses for librarians. She continues to tell Japanese stories to children in the U.S., and was awarded the 2003 International Story Bridge Award for her work.
